Update On Planned Closure Of Bentham Country Club

We would just like to update all of our members on the planned closure of Bentham Country Club.  In July 2015, an outline planning application for the redevelopment of Bentham Country Club to include the erection of 39 dwellings, associated parking, public open space, landscaping and associated works was submitted.

The length of time to process this application and reach a decision reflects the complex nature of the planning process, especially with many stakeholders involved.  There are many agreements that have to be met as part of the planning process.   The majority of these have now been met.  For example:

  • Education & Libraries contribution agreed.
  • Affordable housing contribution agreed.
  • Glos. Highways agreed.
  • New 4 court netball dome including playing surface at Millbrook School site agreed and application has Sport England’s backing.

We currently are waiting for confirmation of a date for when the planning committee is undertaking their site visit.  Once completed, we will then be given a date for when the application goes before committee.  After all the hard work we would hope the application will be put forward for recommendation.  Following a favourable decision, a period of time will then be required for the legal matters to be carried out between relevant stakeholders.

In the meantime, Bentham Country Club will continue to remain open and we would like to thank you for your continued custom and understanding.  As soon as there are any more significant updates we will communicate this to our members.

Kind regards

Tony Markham
